EXPOSITORY PREACHING CERTIFICATE

This program is designed for those men who have been called to preach the Word of God and desire to be trained in expository preaching. It is a two year program consisting in 8 courses.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

First Year: Second Year:
Pastoral Ministries I
A detailed look from 1 Timothy 3:1-7 at the character of an pastor/elder and of the pastorate. Also, the development of a Biblical philosophy of ministry and the biblical use of money will be discussed.

Pastoral Ministries II
Provides a further look at the foundation for the development of a philosophy of ministry, integrating the concerns and pastoral responsibilities with respect to: evangelism, Christian education, discipleship, missions, leadership development, leading worship services/weddings/funerals/etc., planning for the future, relationships with the community and the Biblical ordinances.

Introduction to Biblical Counseling
This course is designed to refine the students understanding of discipleship and the sufficiency of Scripture in Biblical Counseling.

Historical Theology
A panoramic view designed to give the student a general understanding and appreciation of the church from the time of Christ to the present. Special emphasis will be given to the movements, individuals and principles that have made a significant impact upon the history of the church. A few examples of topics are: Gnosticism, Arianism, Nestorianism, Church Councils, ana-baptism, Catholicism, the Reformation, the Puritans, and the Great Awakening.

How to Study to Preach
This course is focused upon developing the process of a literal, historical, grammatical understanding of the Scriptures.

Expository Preaching
The study of the preparation and presentation of expository sermons. The student will learn how to process all their exegesis into a well organized, well outlined message. The use of illustrations/application will also be discussed.

Exegesis of 1 Timothy
1 Timothy will be studied, with an emphasis given on how to preach the text. The student will also be provided with the opportunity to exposit short sections to the class.

Preaching Laboratory
Each student will preach expository sermons to the class, which will be evaluated according to the principles of exegesis and homoletics that the students have learned.
